THE BARN

The Connecticut College Equestrian team rides at Mystic Valley Hunt Club in Gales Ferry, CT. The facilities include two indoor rings, four outdoor rings, one grass hunt course and a two-level cross country course, all situated on 172 acres of land. Sally Hinkle owns the facility, and Richard Luckhardt coaches our team. Team members receive one or two lessons a week subsidized by the school (according to the preference of each individual member) as well as any extra-unsubsidized lessons arranged between Richard and each individual. The horses are all owned by Mystic Valley Hunt Club and range from more difficult, green horses to older school masters (warm bloods, quarter horses, thoroughbreds and more). Riding at Mystic Valley helps to benefit team members by bettering our skills in order to compete in the IHSA as well as cultivating the love of riding that we all share. The barn is also used by other Connecticut residents, allowing team members to meet and ride with people both from school and the community. The college receives much appreciated help from the community members during the IHSA shows we host twice a year. Mystic Valley Hunt Club is located 15 minutes from Connecticut College. If you wish to make an appointment to visit the barn during the academic year, please contact the captains. During academic breaks, please contact our coach, Richard, to set up an appointment. See Contacts page for further information.
